Me too! Dates etc on the info sheet check out, but I must admit I'm a tad skeptical. A sheet like this would be very easy to fake. If it is the real thing however it must be the find of the decade!

I have contacted the seller - he said he hasn't heard it yet as he has no means to play it. He might postpone the sale until he can provide samples. I hope we'll hear more of it!

It might be worth it to contact Tony Visconti to see if he can confirm or deny the validity of this tape.

Yes I'm skeptical too.
I also would love to hear from Tony if he can confirm the unreleased track.
Maarten are you gonna contact Tony about it yourself?

A studio reel sold at a street sale? I Am A Laser, why would that have been re-recorded and isn't a Bowie version unreleased as well? No feedback at all?

Would be splendid if it were real though!

outtakes and the demo of Young Americans? If it is real, lets hope the winning bidder is incredibly generous and shares the tracks online!

Someone on Facebook asked Tony Visconti about it and got a reply:

Quote:
Tony Visconti: Well, it doesn't say whether it's a quarter inch reel or a two inch reel. I think it's a rough mix tape on quarter inch (just stereo), a work in progress. It's rare to have four masters on a two inch reel. But then again it could be a back up tape. But it's a great buy for Shilling The Rubes alone. I don't even remember how that goes.

So he seems to think it is the real thing! The seller has pulled the auction now as he is trying to find a way to play it and create samples. Can't wait to hear those.
Anyone have a spare $5000 lying around and no idea what to spend it on?

This may be an appropriate point to remind everyone that "Shilling The Rubes" is circus slang for fraudulently separating people from their money.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the price has gone up. He says he also has a second reel of unreleased takes/songs.

well it now includes a CD transfer which has to be worth the extra $10,000! At least now with the CD whoever wins has an even easier job of putting the tracks online for the fans without that kind of money.

The seller may own the physical tape, but not its contents, so, with this in mind, I wonder if DB or his (equally elusive) management will make contact with the seller (even worse, wasn't tony deep freeze still involved then - I feel a golden years catalogue addition coming on, speaking of TD he has, in light of the immanent Mick Ronson documentary and book release (and HOF induction (hopefully)) has decided to re-release Ronno's first 2 albums - band wagon, jump, hmm)

.
