The Labyrinth soundtrack has not been available on Spotify for a while but now it's back and I just noticed that the version of Magic Dance is an 4'13'' edit of the album version instead of the full 5'13'' album version.
You mention "an edit (4'08" vs. 5'13") of the album version appeared exclusively on an Australian promo 7" (EMI RPS 20)" - is this the same as this one?

I don't have the Australian promo version but a quick cooledit comparison shows that this is the album version with a few nips and tucks.

A bar or two missing in some of the filler sections, some baby talk clipped and an early fade.
Odd how these things just appear.

I have the Australian 45, don't have a Spotify account or a smart phone (2g for me, till March 31 2017). I only have the 45 on disc, not on my computer.

If it's easy to compare accurately, I will. It's the how to, with what, that I need.

It appears this edit is used now for the other download services I checked (iTunes and Qobuz). I purchased it from the latter and will report on changes later.

Can anyone tell us which edit was used on the Parlophone reissue CDs in Europe and Japan in 2014/15?

It's a unique edit, identified by the terrible 80s "hiccup edits" at 3.35. These also appear on the Single Edit of the downloadable EP but that mix is different. The promo single edit doesn't have the "hiccups".
