a little clarification required for the release date. when a record is simply repressed or kept in print, leave the release date as per the first pressing. examples of label variation will feature in that same thread, but these are not genuine reissues where cover art and cat nos have been altered. examples of the latter are the RCA International green label reissues, EMI/Ryko reissues and Japanese editions with new obis and cat nos. these have known release dates and should be labelled as such.

this may all seem a bit daunting and excessive but as the discography grows it will become increasingly more important to be able to differentiate between variations. what's been posted thus far really is the tip of the iceberg, and collectors with multiple variations and obscure titles will benefit from a clear, accurate system.

note there is a preview button for all entries so experiment until you're happy you've presented things as effectively as you can.

please don't be offended if anything is modified after your post, this is the luxury of a website where things can be continually updated. if you spot an error on anyone's post, PM them or a moderator and it will be updated. this needs to be a collaborative venture if it's to succeed.

finally, after a surge of snapping and uploading, my modest collection has been uploaded with just a handful remaining. anyone waiting for me to stop so they can add things, please go ahead! i'm grateful for the input of members on my own posts and welcome suggestions for further improvement.

Matt,

i'm wading through this stuff and loving it, thanks again for your hard work.

I may have missed it somewhere but has any consideration been given to a draft list with a simple description to avoid duplication?

Perhaps each of us could create a post with a basic text list of what we have.

eg TMWSTW Spain "El Hombre Que Vendio El Mundo" Green Label RCA

From there a moderator could pick a selection from people so there is no chance of duplication and wasted time.

Also those with a higher level of technical skill could be chosen first without any unpleasant "your pictures are rubbish and being replaced" posts...

It could be a sticky post somewhere so everyone understood.

Just a thought.

Christian

good suggestions. i think people submitting lists of large collections might mean a lot of cross referencing and mistakes. it may not work but i think if someone is ready and able to upload then they should submit a list of what they want to do, perhaps up to a dozen at a time. it won't take long to see if any are already included (especially when a minor variation, some of these are covered within posts) and then priority can be given to that individual. it's highly unlikely that any two people have the same collection, so plenty of room for everyone. there must be over 1000 records yet to come.

my next suggestion is that when you are ready, submit one post and wait for a member to "approve" it. this will save any time-consuming re-uploads later. consistency is the key to making this thing easy to navigate.

I think it is also important to check the copy you have to what is already uploaded anyway - who says there aren't two (slightly) different versions of 'TMWSTW Spain "El Hombre Que Vendio El Mundo" Green Label RCA' for instance? There might be a small difference in the back cover or in label design or something.

definitely. this is how we found the "artiste" variation for David Live and differences in the Spanish Hunky Dory as just two examples. add promo stamps and other modifications and there are numerous "minor" contributions to be made, even from the smallest collections.

Is it possible to link the album section to the forum?
What I mean is, if you visit the discography/albums and click on an album you should be linked to the special information of that album. If a CD album discography is build up one day and is also linked, you get the perfect overview of an album.

Cheers

A really good idea Torsten but very labour intensive. I don't have the time for that at the moment I'm afraid...

EDIT: done!
